Sherif Mousa is one of the most reputable fanciers in the UAE. As a passionate pigeon fancier, he has spent years caring for and training racing pigeons. Initially introduced to the world of fancy show pigeons, his interest grew when he was introduced to racing pigeons. With a focus on One Loft Races due to work commitments, Sherif has achieved significant success with his birds, including the 1st Ace pigeon in Emirates OLR.
What inspired you to become a pigeon fancier?

“I wasn’t interested in birds, except for consuming them, until about ten years ago. A friend gave me a pair of show pigeons in 2012, and initially, I only knew how to provide them with food. However, I was curious about these creatures and began researching online to learn more about pigeon fanciers and their fascinating world.”
Could you share with us your most significant accomplishment in One Loft Races?
“My most significant achievement to date in One Loft Races involves two of my top-performing birds. EMR19-1941, affectionately known as “Happiness,” delivered an exceptional performance, winning an impressive three consecutive races, securing 4th place, 4th place, and 3rd place in the final. Another notable accomplishment involves EMR20-1964, known as “King Alpha,” who competed against several world champions in several challenging races at Emirates OLR. King Alpha emerged victorious despite the stiff competition and was crowned 1st Ace pigeon, a testament to the bird’s exceptional ability and bloodline.”
How do you feel about the structure of the Dubai One Loft Pigeon Race?

“I am quite enthusiastic about the many new One Loft Races that have emerged in the region. However, the existence of a world-class One Loft Race in the United Arab Emirates has been a long-awaited dream, which the Dubai One Loft Pigeon Race is hoped to fulfill. Based on my observations so far, I am pleased to note that the Dubai One Loft Pigeon Race organizers have meticulously planned and prepared for the event with a top-notch loft and facilities. Moreover, the racing schedule, consisting of eleven weekly races, is similar to the UAE club races in terms of frequency and distance, providing me, as a fancier, with a realistic sense of how my birds would perform in a typical club race setting. Overall, I am impressed with the structure and organization of the Dubai One Loft Pigeon Race and am excited to see what the future holds for this exciting event.”
Where did the pigeons you chose to compete in the Race originate from?

“The pigeons that I have selected for this year’s Race are a combination of carefully chosen proven breeders from various countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, the UK, and Egypt. These birds have impressive racing records, and/or are direct descendants of world champions, ensuring high quality and performance. In addition to these breeders, I am also racing the offspring of my own winning champions over the past four years. Based on their performance in 2023, I can confidently say that the second-generation birds are outperforming their ancestors, which is a testament to the success of my breeding program.”
For fanciers interested in taking part in One Loft Races in the Middle East, what advice would you offer?
As a seasoned pigeon fancier, I would suggest that fanciers carefully consider the birds they select to send, given the challenging weather conditions and geography of the region. It is essential to choose birds with both speed and endurance and avoid sending larger birds that may struggle to perform well in the races.
For instance, a 150 km race in the UAE can be as difficult as a 250 km race in the Netherlands. Therefore, sending birds that are well-suited to these conditions can increase the chances of success.
It is also worth noting that participating in One Loft Races in the Middle East can be a remarkable experience. In particular, attending the final races in Dubai can create unforgettable memories for pigeon fanciers worldwide.
