Race Results December 3, 2023:
Of the 2628 pigeons that participated, 2454 completed the race, achieving a good 93% rate. Notably, only 50 pigeons managed to arrive within the first 15 minutes after the winner, indicating it might have been a tough race.
The pigeons were released at 8:45 AM, southwest of the loft, but we faced a bit of a delay due to a haze in the Dubai Desert. Despite the odds, 87% of our 2628 pigeons made it back before noon!
Release Weather Conditions:
– Temp: 22°C
– UV Index: 2
– Wind: 6km/h (E)
– Gusts: 12km/h
– Humidity: 75%
– Pressure: 1020 hPa
– Visibility: 18km
It was a tough one – only a small group of 6 pigeons arrived together after 30 minutes. Then, it was mostly small groups or solo pigeons until about 45 minutes into the race when larger groups started arriving, all from the east or northeast. Looks like that east wind played a role in steering them.
Health Check:
Before the race on Sunday, 31 pigeons were placed in the sick bay due to minor injuries and ailments like One Eye Cold. It is noteworthy that there have been no reports of major illnesses in the past two months, ensuring the overall well-being of the pigeons at this moment.
Challenges Faced:
Only 50 pigeons arrived within 15 minutes of the winner, Exclusive Pigeon Team of Germany. Experts we consulted suggest that the unusual east wind may have diverted pigeons towards the desert side rather than the loft. Larger groups experienced a significant headwind as they approached the loft from the west. A humidity level of 75% could have also impacted their orientation. The shorter distance may have also prompted some pigeons to cover extra miles during the race.
Next Race Announcement:
Anticipate another race on Wednesday, scheduled for release between 8:30 and 9:00 AM.
